Felted Pig Pattern Description

This little pig plush pattern came about when I had my son and wanted to create a felt animal farm of realistic looking toy animals, based on the Waldorf and Montessori styles. Most animal patterns are overly cute and I wanted something that mimicked real life, so my son could start to identify realistic animal features.  Using our felted animal pattern, you can make your DIY plush pig to start a farm animal toy collection!

If you’re new to hand sewing stuffed animals, you’re in for a treat!  This felted animal pattern whips up super quickly and can be made in just an afternoon or two. With all felt projects, minimal fabric is used making this a great stash busting project.

The felt pig pattern uses chenille wire to give the pig structure to stand on his feet, and put a little curl in his tail. An embroidered snout and curved ears give this little pig such personality. And the eyes are embroidered using a French Knot.

The pattern you’ll receive includes simple and easy step-by-step instructions, with pictures for each step, and instructions for the hand stitches used in the pattern (blanket stitch, straight stitch, French knot). The pattern has been thoughtfully and carefully created with beginners in mind to make sure it’s easy to understand.

  • Finished felt pig measures 2″ (5cm) tall and 3″ (7.5cm) long

  • Pattern skill level: Beginner

  • Felt fabric in wool/rayon blend:
    – Light pink: 4″ x 8″ (10x20cm)
    – Beige: 3/4″ x 1.5″ (2 x 4cm)

    For the felt fabric, we recommend a wool/rayon blend. We really recommend staying away from an all synthetic felt.  As this fabric will fall apart quickly and all of your hard work will be lost!  On the other hand, 100% wool tends to be thick and hard to work with.  So, we recommend a blend of high quality wool/rayon. This is the easiest to work with and with care, your little pig softie will last for many years!

  • Sewing thread in beige

  • Embroidery floss in the following colors:
    – Light brown (6 strands)
    – Black (6 strands)

  • Chenille wire (white/light colored) – 5″
  • Polyester stuffing
  • Needle, Scissors, Straight Pins (or tape or clips to attach pattern to the felt for cutting)
  • Craft tacky glue

  • Basic hand sewing (blanket stitch, straight stitch, French knot). Instructions for each stitch are included in the pattern.
